  • Tuesday July 19, 2016ConnectOne Bank interns celebrate successful fundraising for the Sound Start Babies program

    Where: Lake Drive School
    Mountain Lakes, NJ
A team of interns from ConnectOne Bank, New Jersey’s leading community bank, recently celebrated the end of a successful campaign in support of Sound Start Babies, raising over $6,000 and elevating awareness for the charity. The efforts were a result of ConnectOne Bank’s intern challenge, where interns were encouraged to raise funds and awareness for the charities and causes of their choice, a demonstration of the bank’s commitment to corporate citizenship and to the individual communities in which they operate. The team of interns who chose to support Sound Start Babies, which provides therapies for hearing-impaired children, spent the summer launching several initiatives to benefit the organization, including a “jeans day,” which allowed ConnectOne employees to wear jeans to work in exchange for a small suggested donation. In addition, they coordinated a drive for school supplies for Sound Start Babies' classrooms and raised awareness among bank employees, family, and friends to generate donations. They closed the summer by joining Sound Start Babies students for a watermelon party to celebrate the success of their campaign. “At ConnectOne, investing in our communities is a part of our DNA, and we encourage our summer interns to fulfill that role and extend those values,” says ConnectOne Bank’s EVP and Chief Lending Officer Elizabeth Magennis. “Our interns came together to make an impact in the NJ community while learning valuable business lessons about entrepreneurship, leadership and teamwork along the way. We are proud of all they’ve accomplished.” Overall, the donations generated by ConnectOne Bank will offer more children the ability to join the Sound Start Babies program, and will aid in the efforts to eliminate a waiting list. About Sound Start Babies The Sound Start Babies program provides early intervention for babies with hearing loss or who are hard of hearing from birth to age 3. The therapy provided through the program teaches babies to listen, speak and communicate to prevent irreversible delays in speech and learning. Money donated to the program is used to provide innovative therapies in the classroom, as well as at home. Every year the Sound Start Babies program is able to grow and evolve, offering more to the families it serves due to generous gifts, such as the one given by ConnectOne Bank. About ConnectOne ConnectOne Bank is a community-based, full-service New Jersey-chartered commercial bank that was founded in 2005. Mountain Lakes, NJ— ¬On July 14, 2016, The Sound Start Babies hosted a fundraiser at Healthy Italia. The 2 hour cooking demonstration started at 7pm in the brand new, state of the art, cooking school. Guests enjoyed appetizers and wine upon arrival and cooking demonstrations of Risotto Toscano (risotto with Chianti, rosemary and pecorino) and Crostata Di Nocciole (crostata with hazelnuts and chocolate). Dinner and dessert were also served with wine pairings. The event raised over $500 which will aid in funding the 2016-2017 program. The Sound Start Babies program provides early intervention for babies with hearing loss or who are hard of hearing from birth to 3 years of age.
